Watching the rebroadcast of Diamondbacks-Dodgers, unable to sleep. Neither is #2 son--migraine. We played two games of poker, and one can of chicken noodle soup later, nothing. He's playing Guitar Hero, and I'm venting here, so hopefully one of us will go to sleep before long. He's taken some Tylenol PM for his migraine, so it should kick in pretty soon.

I managed to get in a nap this afternoon, and had to force myself awake to keep from just this situation. Fail.

I plan to hit Comic-Con Thursday, for one day. If you do it right, one day is all you need. It really annoys me that Comic-Con isn't about the comics any more--it's about the movies, TV shows, video games, manga, toys...just about anything but the comics. This will most likely be the last year I go--I will be looking into the possibility of going to WonderCon in SF this winter, or there's this Con in Phoenix that is getting some play over the past few years--may be worth checking out. Comic-Con is just getting too big and too off focus.

My first day back to school is August 7, a mere 18 days away. Ugh. I could rant on and on about how I want to get out of teaching, but it's all been said before, so I will spare the general public.

I have to move my belongings from my nice comfy indoor classroom to the porta-potties on the edge of the campus. I wish they would just break down and build us a new frikkin' building with real classrooms in it...these portable classrooms have been here almost as long as I have. Anyway, I have to move all the books, materials, and personal stuff I have in my old room, to my new classroom out in the sticks. And Ihave two days to do it before I go to Con. In this AZ monsoon heat. The fun never stops.

It just now opened up and poured here. I love the sound of rain on the roof, but here, it never lasts long enough, and we always pay the price later, with oppressive humidity the next day. I just came in from outside, and it went from deluge, to shower, to sprinkle in just minutes. Felt good to stand in the rain and get wet without the use of a garden hose or indoor plumbing.

Geez, everyone's all up in arms about the Batman movie. I saw the trailer, and I do not like their take on the Joker. They just have him portrayed as a garden variety nutjob--he doesn't even have the famous permanent smile the Joker is supposed to have--just some cheap-ass costume make-up. Nicholson's Joker--who did have the perma-smile--may have been over-the-top, but the character is insane, people--he's supposed to be over the top. Everyone's wetting themselves over Heath Ledger's performance, and it may be good for all I know--but it's not the Joker I know.

#2 son, who played in the rain with me at 3:40 am, is now in bed. I'm heading there, too...there's a Paint by Numbers puzzle with my name on it.
