i_calql8: (I sad)

From a sympathetic Cubs fan

My heart goes out to Angels fans, and their loss of up-and-coming pitcher Nick Adenhart. Adenhart was killed by an idiot driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI, who, while under the influence again, ran a red light and broadsided Adenhart's car, killing him hours after pitching six solid innings of last night's game. The aforementioned idiot, who had the gall to try to flee the scene, is now up on charges of, among other things, felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and possible murder.

Lost potential is a shame. Lost potential due to incredible stupidity should be intolerable. Nick Adenhart will be missed by anyone with an appreciation of the game, and by anyone else who's had a similar, senseless loss.

That was on our news tonight -- apparently, Nick Adenhart grew up in Maryland. Such a sad story.

::also haz a sad::

I saw some of his spring training games on TV (including one that made my Cubs look foolish), along with his first start in last night's loss against the A's (which the bullpen blew).

He had a really lively fastball, and a wicked slider, even at only 22 years, and coming off of Tommy John surgery. The Angels were a lock to make the postseason with him--they still are even now--but it'll be a damn shame that he won't be part of it now.

On the late news, they were interviewing people who'd known him. His high school coach was wearing a faded Cubs cap. I saw that and thought of you. ;-)

I didn't see the game, but the news was showing clips of his pitches, and I saw an example of that wicked slider. They said he'd been a dominant player all the way through his Little League and high school career.
