So the HP guy comes in to put in the new mother board in the supposedly defective computer I just bought. He discovers that there's a problem, not with the computer, but the monitor cable. Seems we have the wrong one in place. It fits just fine into the tower, but it's the wrong cord. I checked the box the monitor came it--no other cords or adapters were visible.
Now I have to get back in touch with the guy (he showed up while I was at school) and find out what cord it is that I have to get, and then call HP to see if I can get it gratis, since it was supposed to come with my monitor in the first place. If it's a cheap cable I can get at Staples, then screw it, I'm going there.
And I spent a total of close to 5 hours with tech support--not one of those geniuses even considered that the monitor cable might be wrong.
Trivia went well tonight--12 teams, and some old teams came back to play, which was fun. I need to get a blackberry or palm pilot or PDA or whatever they're calling them now, so I can access the web to handle any question disputes. I use my phone right now, but the display sucks, and it's slow.
I asked one question about which super-hero's first love interest was Karen Page. I got a bunch of different incorrect answers, but I decided to prove my comic book geekiness by naming all the first love interests of their wrong answers:
The Flash = Iris West
Green Lantern = Carol Ferris
The Hulk = Betty Ross
Captain America = Sharon Carter
Batman = Vicki Vale
Green Arrow = Did Oliver Queen even have a girlfriend?
The correct answer, of course, was Daredevil. And yes, I am a geek.
Babysitting time at school tomorrow...worksheets and reviews, worksheets and reviews. All I need to do is keep the kids on task, answer any questions they have, and nail the scuzballs who want to goof off.
I get the feeling I pissed someone off in the LJ or in the LJDQ. My ability to insert my size 10 1/2 in my oral cavity is legendary, and I hate doing it, but I always get these feelings that I said the wrong thing to a person I don't want to say wrong things to, and unintentionally so. And of course, if I did do such a thing, the person I slighted wouldn't tell me anyway, so the uncertainty remains with me.
In other news, I paid $1.55 per gallon of gas today. That's a little over 40 cents a liter, for you metric peoples. I think I like this, being able to fill the tank for under $30. I'd better enjoy this while I can.
We're cracking the 40s for lows tonight. I like sleeping with the windows open (provided the idiot neighbors dogs aren't incessantly barking), but it makes for chilly walking when I go to school in the morning.
Okay, typing's going to hell, and since I don't drink, it must mean I need to go to bed.

Sure, gas prices are down here, too, but I'm STILL paying $1.40 per liter premium unleaded. That's OVER 300% MORE THAN YOU ARE PAYING!!! *glares*
As for temperatures, try 5°C at best -- noon, sunshine -- but it's been windy, and raining, all week AND my heating system is broken, and I'm cold, and uncomfortable, and fresh air in the (bed)rooms is to be avoided at all costs unless you want to catch cold, freeze to death or whatever. Hmph.
Keeping my fingers crossed for your cable stuff!

Right now, it's 10 C here (if my F/C conversion mojo is working this morning), but it's dry as a bone in Ye Olde Desert, so it feels colder. Not as cold as, say, with wind chill... ::runs some more::
You need a waterbed. That thing has kept me toasty-warm on nights in Iowa where the blizzards raged and the furnace broke down. Get a waveless mattress, set the mattress heater to 35 C, and enjoy.

I know it's the humidity that makes it seem colder; also, living in a large-ish city does other (mostly unpleasant) things to the climate. And being downtown when the wind is blowing through canals made by several stories-high buildings on both sides (thankfully, no real high-rises) is a real 'chilling' experience. *shivers*
As for a waterbed, that sounds nice 'n' toasty for me, but my husband would never stand for it (or rather, lie on it). He's far less sensitive to cold than I am, and besides, our bedroom remains unheated and the window is open 24/7 all YEAR (unless temperatures fall significantly below freezing). It's nice to breathe fresh, clean air at night, but I do want my living space to be comfortably warm!

$1.55 is better than our area, where the lowest now is $1.65, and temperature-wise today's lows started in the 60s (19C this am), plus it's going to rain all day.

...sorry, I couldn't resist. They did get married, though.

It would have been more exciting if Arrow and Speedy had gotten married -- timely topic and all that. He has to be gay: look at the neat little van dyke (uh huh), life of "loneliness", and the man uses arrows, fer cryin out loud. How much more obvious can they get?
Oh, yes. I remember. Storm, in her black-leather-and-a-mohawk years. But wait! That wasn't her being gay! It was just..oh..stress.
I'll be in the corner bawling my eyes out.
